Lehigh’s University Art Galleries’ collection mission is to increase the quality and scope of the permanent collection while improving its value as an educational resource for our students and for the community at large. This exhibition continues a series highlighting selected new acquisitions from the permanent collection.

The strength of the collection is a tool for teaching visual literacy; a necessary aspect of modern education across all disciplines. This educational purpose has shaped collecting policy; however, we have just scratched the surface of this rich field. Since our buying power is very limited, we rely on the generosity of our alumni, parents, friends and artists. The University now owns numerous significant images, representing many aesthetic interests and styles in the history of art and culture.

Alumni support has been the foundation of the collection’s growth. Through their gifts, alumni have enriched the cultural environment at the university and provided students, and the community with unique exciting and valuable learning experiences.
